It’s a Christmas miracle! A new post! Everyone reading this has heard of the book The Polar Express. It came out 30+ years ago and tells the story of a boy on a magical Christmas Eve train ride to the North Pole, where he receives, then loses, then re-receives a bell from "Mr. C" that only rings for those who truly believe in Santa.
Like many popular books The Polar Express was made into a movie. But the residual money-making did not stop there; enterprising railroad companies now offer their own versions of The Polar Express (all licensed by Warner Brothers of course) so that your children can supposedly have an experience like the boy in the book by riding on an actual train. The closest of these to Greenville is in Bryson City, North Carolina on the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, and over 88,000 people took this train ride over about 7 weeks in 2017 so it is hugely popular. Many of you have done it before, so feel free to nod in your heads in agreement with this post as we break it down. And for those who have not, prepare yourselves. This review is being posted on the Lord’s Day, fitting for a barbeque joint with “God’s Mercy and Grace are New Every Morning” painted on the smokehouse wall. Speaking of Mercy and Grace, those are the names of the twin 1,000 gallon Moberg smokers (custom-made in Dripping Springs, Texas from decommissioned propane tanks) that fill said smokehouse at Bobby’s BBQ in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, the newest addition to the fledgling upstate brisket scene.
It’s no secret that we like college football around here. And this week is one of the best, as collective fan bases reach a fever pitch anticipating the coming weekend of kickoffs. Yesterday Brandt sent Reid a picture of the Gamecocks’ new helmet with the Carolina script logo, but made to look like the Chick-fil-A logo. See for yourself:
It is that time of year again. The days of relaxing evenings, late bedtimes and manageable morning traffic are about to come to an end. A new school year is upon us.
The start of a new school year brings a bevy of activity. The first official school activity occurs when everyone heads to meet the teacher at their respective schools. This is a night that consists of filling out tons of paperwork and then asking everyone who their child has, followed by saying, “Oh, he will love Mrs. Smith. He is going to have a great year!” But, it is what takes place on social media a few days later that you need to be prepared for. That is the back-to-school picture avalanche. They will start early and last throughout the morning on the first day of school. There are all kinds of pictures that will be posted. Let Not My Boys walk you through some of the different back-to-school picture categories you are most likely to see. |
